The Benefits of CoolSculpting® at Olansky Dermatology

Getting rid of unwanted fat can be frustrating for many, especially when the standard advice to monitor calorie intake and increase physical activity doesn’t yield your desired results. Many alternative fat-reduction procedures are surgical and invasive, which require a fair bit of downtime for recuperating.

CoolSculpting® is a long-lasting, non-invasive treatment that provides targeted fat reduction, helping you live your best life while soothing any worries about excess fat.

What is CoolSculpting®?

As our CoolSculpting® specialist Nicole Altamirano explains, CoolSculpting® works through a freezing process called cryolipolysis, during which fat cells are cooled down and crystallized. Afterward, the body can eliminate up to 25% of these frozen fat cells.

Olansky Dermatology offers the use of two CoolSculpting® devices in the office, allowing for the special “Dual-Sculpt” treatment, saving time for those who want to reduce fat in more than a single area. Each session typically involves roughly 35 minutes of treatment time.

Which Areas Can CoolSculpting® Target?

Exercise- and diet-resistant fat can be reduced in these areas thanks to CoolSculpting®:

  • Upper Abdomen
  • Lower Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Inner Thighs
  • Outer Thighs
  • Beneath the Buttocks (Banana Rolls)
  • Knees
  • Submental Chin
  • Upper Arms
  • Front & Back Bra Fat

What are the Expected Results and Recovery of CoolSculpting®?

Many choose CoolSculpting® because it doesn’t require surgery or incisions, and has little to no recovery time. WebMD notes that patients undergoing CoolSculpting® may feel a brief tugging sensation during the process, and there may be tingling, stinging, numbing, or cramping in the area.

Altamirano, our CoolSculpting® specialist, further explains that it’s within 24 -72 hours that you may experience “the worst of the downtime.” She notes that the area may be sensitive to touch, or even feel numb. Slight bruising is also possible, but she and our other specialists can provide oral supplements for relief.

Once you’ve recovered from these mild after-effects, you can expect to see gradual results over the following 90 days, while your body clears out the frozen fat cells. “In clinical studies,” a 2014 study in Clinical, Cosmetic, and Investigational Dermatology concludes, “cryolipolysis was shown to reduce subcutaneous fat at the treatment site by up to 25% after one treatment,” for 86% of those treated. While this means a single session of CoolSculpting® may not rid every inch of every patient’s unwanted fat, “cryolipolysis is considered to be both safe and efficient with a high patient satisfaction rate.”
