Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

Spring cleaning gives us the perfect opportunity to purge what we don’t need and focus on what we do. This year, don’t forget to take a look at your skincare shelf. How could you spring clean your skincare routine? Here are a few tips to try.

Streamline Your Steps

When it comes to skin care, less is often more. Start with a basic skin care routine of three simple steps: cleanse, moisturize, and SPF. Then, only add in products to address specific concerns, such as reducing the signs of aging or treating breakouts. When you have multiple products to apply, start with the thinnest formulas first and end with the thickest.

Get Rid of Expired & Unwanted Products

Once you’ve simplified your skincare routine, you may have products you no longer want or need. They’ll only collect dust on your shelf or in a drawer or cabinet, so don’t wait to get rid of anything you aren’t using. As you’re going through, be sure to check all of your beauty products – including those you intend to keep – for the expiration date.

While it can be tempting to keep your favorite products past the end of their recommended lifespan, doing so could backfire. The majority of used cosmetics contain bacteria that could cause infections, including pinkeye. Be willing to part ways with outdated makeup and skincare products to protect your health.

This cleanout is an excellent opportunity to discover new products that might work even better — which brings us to our next points.

Identify Your Spring Skin Needs

With warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels, you’ll likely need less moisture than you did in the dryer, cooler season. So it makes sense to replace thick creams with lightweight moisturizers and water-based products. If you’re prone to breakouts, look for products that are labeled noncomedogenic, which means that the ingredients are unlikely to clog pores.

Allow our providers to recommend a tailored skin care regimen to address any concerns you may have.

Commit to Applying SPF Daily

A final but important way to take care of your skin this spring is to commit to using sun protection of an SPF of at least 30. While you should be doing this year-round, now is the time to be extra diligent about applying (and re-applying) sunblock. Not only are the sun’s rays stronger in the warmer months, but you’re also likely to be spending more time outdoors.
