Restylane was approved in 2003 by the FDA for treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is the key component of this dermal filler, which helps store moisture under the skin. Restylane injections plump and fill under the skin where deep lines form, adding back volume that is lost as you get older. With more volume, the deeper lines fade and the skin appears more youthful, with results within a few days after the treatment.
Is Restylane Right for You?
Restylane injections are designed for deeper lines or increased volume in the lips. The best candidates are those with noticeable marionette lines that form at the corner of their mouth and progress down the chin or have deeper nasolabial or parentheses lines. Restylane is effective for these deeper lines on the lower portion of the face, or it can add volume to lips. The results last for about six months to over a year, depending on the area treated and the type of Restylane product used.
Restylane injections are safe and do not require any downtime after the procedure. Most treatments can be done in about 15-30 minutes. There can be a little swelling after the treatment, and it is recommended to stay out of the sun after the procedure.
