MiraDry FAQ

Do you struggle with excessive underarm sweat? Are you tired of pit-stained shirts or avoiding certain social events due to your sweating problem? Not only is there a solution, but it may be easier than you think. MiraDry is a one-of-a-kind treatment for excessive underarm sweat, also known as axillary hyperhidrosis. Using the advanced technology of this in-office, non-surgical treatment, we can permanently eliminate sweat and odor glands in the underarm region. MiraDry uses microwave energy to destroy unneeded sweat glands as well as a special cooling mechanism to soothe and protect the skin.

If you are considering miraDry, it is understandable to have questions. From what to expect during the procedure itself to what you can anticipate in terms of results, here are some answers to some frequently asked questions about miraDry:

What can I expect during the procedure?

Prior to your treatment, we will apply local anesthesia to numb the underarm area. Most procedures last about an hour, but this will depend on your unique needs and concerns. After the treatment session, you may return to normal activities. Exercise or strenuous physical activity should be avoided for the first few days.

Are there any side effects or recovery symptoms I should be aware of?

After the treatment you may experience soreness, swelling, tingling or numbness in the area. This is only temporary and should dissipate within the following several days. To date, there are no permanent side effects associated with miraDry.

Are the results immediate?

Yes, you should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweat right away. Your sweat glands can’t regrow, so once they are destroyed, you can expect permanent relief from hyperhidrosis.

Don’t I need sweat glands?

While it is true that your body needs sweat glands to properly cool itself, it is not imperative to have the sweat glands in your arm pits. In fact, only 2% of your body’s total sweat glands are found in your underarm.

Is miraDry safe and effective for all skin types?

Yes – the advanced technology of miraDry is color-blind so the type and shade of your skin does not affect the effectiveness of the treatment.

Do I have to sweat excessively in order to qualify for miraDry?

MiraDry can be used for anyone who want to sweat less and “smell” less under their arms. If you have trouble finding a deodorant or antiperspirant to work or last through the day, you may be a candidate for miraDry.
